The Ambedkar Room at Gray’s Inn, London

The Honourable society of Gray’s Inn commonly known as Gray’s Inn is another important institute of law in the UK where Dr Ambedkar was called to the bar in 1922 and completed his Bar at-Law degree. There are already two portraits of Dr Ambedkar at the Inn, one donated by the Dr Ambedkar Memorial Committee of GB in 1974 and another by the Government of India in 2016.There is also an Indian bean tree in The Walks of the Inn donated by the then Indian High Commissioner in 1997. Over the years, on behalf of FABO UK, our President, Santosh Dass led discussions with Gray’s Inn for a number of proposals for an Ambedkar Memorial in the Gray’s Inn. Finally, The Royal Society of Gray’s Inn agreed on naming a room after Dr Ambedkar which would give an introduction to this great man and create a curiosity to know more about him, his works and accomplishments. Another portrait of Dr Ambedkar commissioned by FABO UK was presented to the Gray’s Inn. The Ambedkar Room and the portrait was unveiled on 30 June, 2021 by Mr Ali Malek QC, Master Treasurer, The Honourable Society of Gray’s inn.
